Kommt vorbei zu einem weiteren Filmabend am 23.04. im faq.
Dieses Mal werden wir – The Watermelon Woman – zusammen schauen.
Es geht darum, wie die Filmemacherin Cheryl Dunye in einer Videothek in Philadelphia Videos von einer Schwarzen Schauspielerin findet (Fae Richards)- deren Namen allerdings nur als Watermelon Woman dokumentiert wurde.
Cheryl beginnt daraufhin ihre Geschichte nachzuzeichnen, wobei schnell deutlich wird, wie unsichtbar Schwarze Geschichte gemacht wird.
Cheryl Dunye stellt sich mit diesem Film gegen das Fehlen Schwarzer und queerer Perspektiven in der US-amerikanischen Filmgeschichte.

Come along to another film night on 23 April at faq.
This time we’ll be watching *The Watermelon Woman* together.
The film is about how filmmaker Cheryl Dunye finds videos of a Black actress (Fae Richards) in a video shop in Philadelphia – whose name, however, was only documented as ‘Watermelon Woman’.
Cheryl then sets out to trace her story, and it quickly becomes clear how Black history is rendered invisible.
With this film, Cheryl Dunye challenges the absence of Black and queer perspectives in US film history.
Snacks, tea and hot water bottles will be provided, so feel free to bring your favourite people along and make yourselves comfortable with us 🍿
