💬 Englisch und Deutsch mit Simultanübersetzung
Ob Freiwilligendienste, kurze „Hilfseinsätze“ oder Projektreisen – Voluntourismus begegnet uns in vielen Formen und wird oft als Möglichkeit beworben, etwas Gutes zu tun.
Doch gut gemeinte Hilfe kann unbeabsichtigt schädliche Strukturen festigen, bestehende Machtverhältnisse verstärken und den Blick von den Menschen ablenken, die direkt von globalen Grenzregimen und kolonialen Kontinuitäten betroffen sind.
Während der Volunteer-Sektor weiter wächst, reisen viele Menschen mit dem Wunsch zu „helfen“, ohne immer zu hinterfragen, welche Bilder, Erwartungen und Ungleichheiten dabei entstehen.
Was richtet Voluntourismus also tatsächlich an – und wie können wir uns engagieren, ohne Schaden zu verursachen?
In dieser Podiumsdiskussion, moderiert von Carolin von glokal e.V., teilen Dolly, Laila und Malika ihre Perspektiven und Erfahrungen. Gemeinsam beleuchten sie, warum Voluntourismus problematisch ist, welche strukturellen Dynamiken ihm zugrunde liegen und wie er sich auf lokale Communities, politische Kämpfe und individuelle Lebensrealitäten auswirkt.
Gleichzeitig geht es um die Frage, wie solidarisches Handeln anders aussehen kann:
Welche Formen der Unterstützung sind sinnvoll und verantwortungsvoll? Wie können Austausch, Engagement und internationale Zusammenarbeit gestaltet werden, ohne koloniale Muster zu reproduzieren? Und wie können wir uns gegenseitig stärken, statt vermeintliche „Lösungen“ von außen mitzubringen?
Im Anschluss an die Diskussion gibt es Raum für Fragen, Gedanken und Erfahrungen aus dem Publikum. Wir laden euch herzlich ein, mitzudenken, zuzuhören und gemeinsam nach anderen Wegen solidarischen Handelns zu suchen.

Whether it’s volunteer work, short ‘aid missions’ or project trips – voluntourism comes in many forms and is often promoted as an opportunity to do good.
But well-intentioned help can unintentionally reinforce harmful structures, strengthen existing power relations and distract attention from the people who are directly affected by global border regimes and colonial continuities.
As the volunteer sector continues to grow, many people travel with the desire to ‘help’ without always questioning the images, expectations and inequalities that arise in the process.
So what does voluntourism actually achieve – and how can we get involved without causing harm?
In this panel discussion, moderated by Carolin from glokal e.V., Dolly, Laila and Malika share their perspectives and experiences. Together, they shed light on why voluntourism is problematic, the structural dynamics underlying it, and how it affects local communities, political struggles and individual realities.
At the same time, they will address the question of how solidarity can look different:
What forms of support are meaningful and responsible? How can exchange, engagement and international cooperation be structured without reproducing colonial patterns? And how can we strengthen each other instead of bringing in supposed ‘solutions’ from outside?
Following the discussion, there will be space for questions, thoughts and experiences from the audience. We cordially invite you to join us in thinking, listening and searching together for other ways of acting in solidarity.
