Eine Podiumsdiskussion anlässlich der Veröffentlichung von Israel’s Heterotopy: Gaza in der israelischen Politik und Kultur
Nur zwei Monate vor dem 7. Oktober 2023 wurde ein bahnbrechendes Werk auf Hebräisch veröffentlicht, das sich mit dem wichtigsten „Anderen“ befasst: Gaza, die Stadt, der Streifen, der Ort, vor allem als Signifikant in Sprache und Medien.
Israel’s Heterotopia (herausgegeben von Omri Ben Yehuda und Dotan HaLevi, Tel Aviv: Gama Press, 2023) oszilliert zwischen zwei Formen der Imagination, der globalisierten und der sehr lokalen, und versucht, einen orientalistischen Ansatz des geopolitischen Wissens über „den Orient“ zu vermeiden. Stattdessen schlägt es einen Blick auf das israelische Selbst vor, das in der Begegnung mit dem Anderen, dem palästinensischen Flüchtling, gefestigt und angefochten wird.

A panel discussion marking the publication of Israel’s Heterotopy: Gaza in Israeli Politics and Culture
Just two months prior to October 7, 2023, a pioneering work was published in Hebrew, to address its most pertinent “Other”: Gaza, the city, the strip, the place, most of all as a signifier in language and media.
Oscillating between two forms of imaginations, the globalized and the very local, Israel’s Heterotopia (edited by Omri Ben Yehuda and Dotan HaLevi, Tel Aviv: Gama Press, 2023) aims to avoid an orientalist approach of geo-political knowledge of ‘’the Orient’’. Instead, it suggests a look to the Israeli self, consolidated and contested in meeting and avoiding its Other: the Palestinian refugee.
