Während Israel seinen Völkermord im Gazastreifen fortsetzt und beispiellose Angriffe gegen die Bevölkerung im Westjordanland, im Libanon und im Iran verübt, schickt die EU Millionenbeträge an israelische Universitäten.
Im Rahmen des „Horizon“-Programms erhielt Israel in den letzten drei Jahren 1,1 Milliarden Euro – mehr als alle EU-Mitgliedstaaten bis auf zwei.
Diese Mittel und Partnerschaften sind für die israelische Wissenschaft von entscheidender Bedeutung; die israelische Akademie der Wissenschaften und Geisteswissenschaften erklärt, ein Ausschluss aus dem Programm wäre „fast ein Todesurteil“ für die israelische Forschung.
Das israelische Hochschulsystem ermöglicht die Besetzung palästinensischen Landes und regionale Aggressionen, indem es seinem völkermordenden Militär unverzichtbare Technologien und andere Dienstleistungen bereitstellt.
Projekte ohne direkten militärischen Bezug spielen eine Schlüsselrolle bei der Normalisierung seines Apartheid-Systems, indem sie es einer auf ethnischer Säuberung und Völkermord basierenden Entität ermöglichen, sich als Leuchtturm des wissenschaftlichen Fortschritts zu präsentieren.
Während die EU Russland fast unmittelbar nach dessen Invasion in der Ukraine aus „Horizon“ ausgeschlossen hat, ist Israel nach über zwei Jahren Völkermord in Gaza und Angriffen auf seine Nachbarn weiterhin Teil des Programms.
Am 27. März werden Studierende in über 30 Städten in der gesamten EU demonstrieren, um den Ausschluss Israels aus dem „Horizon“-Programm zu fordern.

As Israel continues its genocide in Gaza and unleashes unprecedented aggression against the people of the West Bank, Lebanon, and Iran, the EU sends millions to Israeli universities.
Through the Horizon program, Israel received 1.1 billion euros over the past three years, more than all but two EU member states.
These funds and partnerships are essential to Israeli academia, with Israel’s Academy of Science and Humanities saying expulsion from the program would be “almost a death knell” for Israeli research.
Israel’s university system enables its occupation of Palestinian land and regional aggression by providing essential technology and other services for its genocidal military.
Projects without direct military links play a key role in normalizing its apartheid system by allowing an entity based on ethnic cleansing and genocide to present itself as a beacon of scientific progress.
While the EU removed Russia from Horizon almost immediately after its invasion of Ukraine, Israel has remained in the program after over two years of genocide in Gaza and attacks against its neighbours.
On 27 March, students in over 30 cities across the EU will demonstrate to demand the removal of Israel from the Horizon program.
