Im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Widerstand und Würde“ zeigen wir den Film „The Awakening“ mit anschließendem Gespräch.
Der Dokumentarfilm von Kenan Emini zeigt Momentaufnahmen der politischen und sozialen Lage von Rom*nja in Europa:
ihr Kampf ums Bleiberecht, die Folgen für die von Abschiebung Betroffenen – insbesondere für Kinder und Jugendliche – sowie der Rechtsruck in Europa.
In dem Film und der anschließenden Diskussion mit dem Regisseur werden die Hintergründe für diese Situation besprochen.
Dazu gehören die Folgen des Kosovokriegs und die politische wie gesellschaftliche Marginalisierung und Diskriminierung von Rom*nja, die sich auch in einem mangelnden Bleiberecht spiegelt.
Besonders die Besetzung des Denkmals für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Roma und Sinti Europas in Berlin zeigt eindrücklich die historische Dimension.
CN: Der Film enthält Darstellungen von physischer Gewalt sowie die Verwendung von rassistischer Sprache.
Eine Kooperation des Roma Antidiscrimination Networks, des Roma Center e.V., RomaniPhen e.V. und des FHXB Museums.

As part of the exhibition “Resistance and Dignity”, we are screening the film “The Awakening”, followed by a discussion.
Kenan Emini’s documentary offers snapshots of the political and social situation of Rom*nja in Europe:
their struggle for the right to remain, the consequences for those affected by deportation – particularly children and young people – and the shift to the right in Europe.
The film and the subsequent discussion with the director will explore the background to this situation.
This includes the consequences of the Kosovo War and the political and social marginalisation and discrimination faced by Romani people, which is also reflected in their lack of the right to remain.
In particular, the occupation of the monument in Berlin to the Roma and Sinti of Europe murdered under National Socialism impressively illustrates the historical dimension.
