Am 18. Mai 2026 wurden die an der Global Sumud Flotilla teilnehmenden Zivilisten vor der Küste Zyperns von der IDF entführt, als sie versuchten, Gaza zu erreichen.
Einige Tage zuvor, am 11. Mai, hatte die sogenannte libysche Küstenwache auf das zivile Such- und Rettungsschiff „Sea-Watch 5“ geschossen, nachdem dieses 90 Migrant*innen gerettet hatte, und gedroht, das Schiff zu entern, alle Personen zu entführen und nach Libyen zu bringen.
Was verbindet diese beiden Angriffe, abgesehen davon, dass sie beide im Mittelmeer stattfanden?
Grenzpolizei und Externalisierung der Grenzkontrolle; Einschränkung der Freizügigkeit; Kolonialismus; Kontrolle über natürliche Ressourcen; von korrupten Milizen kontrollierte Küstenstreifen; die Heuchelei der EU-Staaten, die sich als Verfechter der Menschenrechte ausgeben, während sie Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit unterstützen oder direkt finanzieren. Die Liste ließe sich fortsetzen.
Was können unsere Kämpfe voneinander lernen? Welche Taktiken funktionieren? Wie können wir eine stärkere, geeinte Bewegung aufbauen?

On 18 May 2026, the civilians taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla were kidnapped by the IDF off the coast of Cyprus as they tried to reach Gaza.
A few days earlier, on 11 May, the so-called Libyan Coast Guard shot at the Civil Search and Rescue ship, the Sea-Watch 5, after rescuing 90 migrants, and threatened to board the ship and abduct all people and bring them to Libya.
What links these two attacks, besides that they both happened on the Mediterranean Sea?
Border policing and externalising border control; prevention of freedom of movement; colonialism; control of natural resources; coastlines controlled by corrupt militias; hypocrisy of EU states, styling themselves as protectors of human rights, while supporting or directly funding crimes against humanity. The list goes on.
What can our struggles learn from each other? Which tactics work? How can we build a stronger, united movement?
