Welche Rolle spiele ich in internationalen Hilfsstrukturen? Was ist der „White Saviour Industrial Complex“ und inwiefern trage ich dazu bei? Wie kann ich mich engagieren, ohne „White Saviourism“ zu reproduzieren?
„White Saviourism“ liegt vor, wenn Menschen aus privilegierten Verhältnissen so tun, als müssten sie marginalisierte Gruppen „retten“.
Könnte dies auch Teil meines Engagements sein? Was steckt hinter dem „White Saviour Industrial Complex“?
In diesem Workshop möchten wir den historischen und strukturellen Kontext des „White Saviour Industrial Complex“ vorstellen und aufzeigen, wie er mit Rassismus verflochten ist.
Vor allem aber wollen wir ehrlich auf uns selbst schauen und darüber nachdenken, wie wir in unserem Engagement ebenfalls zum „White Saviourism“ beitragen.
Das ist der Ausgangspunkt, um Wege zu finden, wie wir uns engagieren können, ohne schädliches Verhalten zu reproduzieren.
Da wir die Welt nicht einfach in zwei Stunden verändern können, dient dieser Workshop als Raum für Reflexion, Austausch und Erfahrungsaustausch darüber, wie unterdrückerische Strukturen (un)bewusst unser individuelles Verhalten prägen und wie wir diesen Dynamiken entgegenwirken können.

Online Workshop: White Saviourism – do I contribute to the White Saviour Industrial Complex?

What is my role in international support structures? What is the White Saviour Industrial Complex and in what way do I contribute to it? How can I engage without reproducing White Saviourism?
White Saviourism is when people from privileged backgrounds act like they need to ‘save’ marginalized groups.
Could this also be part of my engagement? What lies behind the White Saviour Industrial Complex?
In this Workshop we want to introduce the historical and structural context of the White Saviour Industrial Complex and the way it is intertwined with Racism.
But most importantly, we want to honestly look at ourselves and reflect on how we in our engagement also contribute to White Saviourism.
That is the starting point to find ways of how we can engage without reproducing harmful behaviour.
As we cannot simply change the world in two hours, this workshop serves as a space for reflection, exchange, and sharing experiences on how oppressive structures (un)intentionally shape our individual behaviour, and on how we can counter these dynamics.
