Anhand von Originaldokumenten zeichnet Regisseur Paco Rios das Leben des Metallarbeiters und Anarchisten Buenaventura Durruti während des spanischen Bürgerkriegs 1936 nach.
Es kommt nicht nur Durruti selbst zu Wort, sondern ebenso seine Lebensgefährtin Emilienne Morin, Juan Garcia Olivier und zahlreiche andere Zeitgenossen.
Der Film bietet einen Einblick in die revolutionären Ereignisse vor 90 Jahren, in politische Ränke, die Zwänge des Krieges und Diskussionen in der Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) und der Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI).
Mit einem Militärputsch der nationalen Rechten unter General Emilio Mola und Francisco Franco in Spanisch-Marokko gegen die demokratisch gewählte Volksfrontregierung, beginnt im Juli 1936 der spanische Bürgerkrieg der mit Francos Sieg 1939 in eine von ihm geführte Diktatur mündete, die erst mit seinem Tod 1975 endete.

The film offers an insight into the revolutionary events of 90 years ago, political intrigues, the hardships of war and debates within the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) and the Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI).
The Spanish Civil War began in July 1936 with a military coup by the national right-wing under General Emilio Mola and Francisco Franco in Spanish Morocco against the democratically elected Popular Front government; Franco’s victory in 1939 led to a dictatorship under his rule, which only ended with his death in 1975.
