SOLIDARITÄT IST UNSERE GEMEINSAME SPRACHE ✊

Im Januar hatten wir die Möglichkeit, an einer feministischen Delegation nach Prosfygika in Athen teilzunehmen – einer selbstorganisierten Gemeinschaft, die seit 16 Jahren dem Staat und kapitalistischen Verwertung des städtischen Raums Widerstand leistet.
Prosfygika ist jedoch weit mehr als eine Besetzung.
Auf acht Wohnblöcken leben über 400 Menschen aus 27 Regionen der Welt zusammen und sprechen 20 verschiedene Sprachen.
Was sie eint, ist das gemeinsame Projekt für die Gestaltung eines gemeinschaftlichen Lebens auf der Grundlage von Horizontalität, Solidarität, Mitbestimmung und Selbstverwaltung.
Doch genau dieses Projekt steht heute vor seiner größten Bedrohung.
Der griechische Staat plant die „Sanierung“ der Wohnhäuser, was die Community akut räumungsbedroht macht.
Es ist der fünfte und bislang schwerste Angriff auf die Gemeinschaft.
Um ihr Zuhause und ihre Gemeinschaft vor Investoren, Gentrifizierung und politischer Repression zu verteidigen, befindet sich der Bewohner Aristotelis Chantzis seit dem 5. Februar im Hungerstreik.
Seit dem 1. Mai hat sich ihm Genossin Suzon Doppange angeschlossen.
Beide führen ihren Hungerstreik bis zum Tod.
Der Kampf von Prosfygika steht stellvertretend für all jene Kämpfe gegen Verdrängung und soziale Ausgrenzung, die weltweit geführt werden.
Prosfygika steht zugleich für den Versuch ein Leben zu schaffen, in denen Würde, Selbstbestimmung und kollektive Fürsorge im Mittelpunkt stehen.
Über Jahre hinweg hat sich die Community zu einem Ort des revolutionären Internationalismus und des kollektiven Zusammenlebens gemacht.
Heute braucht sie unsere Solidarität mehr denn je.

SOLIDARITY IS OUR COMMON LANGUAGE ✊

In January, we had the opportunity to take part in a feminist delegation to Prosfygika in Athens – a self-organised community that has been resisting the state and the capitalist exploitation of urban space for 16 years.
However, Prosfygika is far more than just a squat.
Over 400 people from 27 regions of the world live together in eight blocks of flats, speaking 20 different languages.
What unites them is their shared project to shape a communal life based on horizontality, solidarity, co-determination and self-management.
Yet it is precisely this project that now faces its greatest threat.
The Greek state is planning to ‘renovate’ the residential buildings, which puts the community at acute risk of eviction.
It is the fifth and, so far, most severe attack on the community.
To defend his home and his community against investors, gentrification and political repression, resident Aristotelis Chantzis has been on hunger strike since 5 February.
Comrade Suzon Doppange joined him on 1 May.
Both are continuing their hunger strike until death.
Prosfygika’s struggle is representative of all those struggles against displacement and social exclusion being waged worldwide.
Prosfygika also stands for the attempt to create a life centred on dignity, self-determination and collective care.
Over the years, the community has become a place of revolutionary internationalism and collective living.
Today, it needs our solidarity more than ever.
