Die Friedensstatue Ari ist seit September 2020 ein globaler Erinnerungsort in Berlin-Moabit für die „Trostfrauen“, die im Zweiten Weltkrieg vom japanischen Militär sexuell versklavt wurden, sowie für alle Opfer sexualisierter Gewalt. Sie steht als Symbol für das Leid und die Widerstandskraft der Überlebenden.
Nun plant die Bezirksbürgermeisterin von Berlin-Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, Ari am 28.09.2024 entfernen zu lassen. Ihre Begründung: Ein temporär genehmigtes Kunstwerk dürfe maximal zwei Jahre im öffentlichen Raum stehen. Tatsächlich gibt es jedoch viele Ausnahmen, und die Entscheidung liegt im Ermessen des Bezirks!
Am 19.09.2024 wird die BVV über unseren Einwohner*innenantrag mit 1.000 gültigen Unterschriften und die Empfehlung des Ausschusses für Weiterbildung und Kultur zum dauerhaften Erhalt von Ari erneut abstimmen. Kommt zahlreich und zeigt dem Bezirksamt, wie groß Eure Solidarität mit Ari ist! 🫶

Since September 2020, the Ari Peace Statue has been a global place of remembrance in Berlin-Moabit for the ‘comfort women’ who were sexually enslaved by the Japanese military during the Second World War and for all victims of sexualised violence. It symbolises the suffering and resilience of the survivors.
Now the district mayor of Berlin-Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, is planning to have Ari removed on 28 September 2024. Her reasoning: a temporarily authorised work of art may remain in public space for a maximum of two years. In fact, however, there are many exceptions and the decision is at the discretion of the district!
On 19 September 2024, the BVV will vote again on our residents‘ petition with 1,000 valid signatures and the recommendation of the Committee for Further Education and Culture on the permanent preservation of Ari. Come in large numbers and show the district office how much solidarity you have with Ari! 🫶
