Anerkennung des ersten deutschen Völkermords!
Gedenken und Kundgebung am 12.04. um 14:00 Uhr in Potsdam vor dem Landtag (Am Alten Markt 1, 14467 Potsdam)
Am 12. April 1884 begann im damaligen Deutsch-Südwestafrika mit dem Massaker von Hornkranz die genozidale Vernichtungspolitik gegen die Ovaherero und Nama. Zwischen 1904 und 1908 wurden rund 50% der Nama und 80% der damaligen Ovaherero durch die deutschen Kolonialtruppen brutal vernichtet.
Daher ist der 12. April ein wichtiges Datum, um des Völkermords an den Ovaherero und Nama zu erinnern.
Zeitgleich wird es in Namibia auf !Nami≠nus ein Gedenken, eine Reparationsdemonstration und ein Herero-Fest in Okahandja geben.
Wir wollen mit der Kundgebung am 12. April in Potsdam ein deutliches Zeichen setzen:
Wir lehnen das sogenannte „Versöhnungsabkommen” zwischen der deutschen und der namibischen Regierung ab!
Es wurde nicht mit den betroffenen Gemeinschaften verhandelt und erkennt den Völkermord an den Ovaherero und Nama nicht juristisch an.
Entwicklungshilfegelder sind nicht Reparationen!
Wir fordern dass die Joint Declaration in ihrer aktuellen Verfassung nicht unterzeichnet wird!
Deutschland soll den Völkermord in Namibia vollumfänglich anerkennen und sich zu Reparationen verpflichten!
Neue Verhandlungen sollen unter Beteiligung der direkt Betroffenen angesetzt werden!
Von Preußen ging die Gewalt aus – Brandenburg soll sich besonders für restorative Gerechtigkeitsarbeit und Neuverhandlungen einsetzen.
Aber statt sich für Reparationen und Klimagerechtigkeit einzusetzen, wird die Extraktionspolitik fortgesetzt: Das Brandenburger Unternehmen Enertrag möchte auf dem Land der Nama „grünen“ Wasserstoff für Deutschlands Energiewende produzieren. 1908 wurde das Land der Nama von der deutschen Kolonialmacht zum Sperrgebiet erklärt.
Mithilfe von Zwangsarbeit wurden dort Diamanten abgebaut. Die Gewinne erreichten nie die Nama, die in Folge des Völkermords landlos wurden und bis heute oft in großer Armut leben. Für den geplanten Export des grünen Wasserstoffs soll der Hafen in !Nami≠nus (Lüderitz) erweitert werden.
Diese Erweiterung soll direkt angrenzen an das ehemalige Konzentrationslager Shark Island. Auf der Haifischinsel befand sich das gefürchtetste Konzentrationslager: Über 80% der Gefangenen starben. Bis heute gibt es dort weder ein offizielles Denkmal noch eine Beschilderung, die an das Grauen erinnert.

Commemoration and rally on 12 April at 02:00 pm in Potsdam in front of the state parliament (Am Alten Markt 1, 14467 Potsdam)
On 12 April 1884, the genocidal extermination policy against the Ovaherero and Nama began with the Hornkranz massacre in what was then German South West Africa. Between 1904 and 1908, around 50% of the Nama and 80% of the then Ovaherero were brutally annihilated by the German colonial troops.
The 12th of April is therefore an important date to remember the genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama.
At the same time, there will be a commemoration in Namibia on !Nami≠nus, a reparations demonstration and a Herero festival in Okahandja.
We want to send a clear signal with the rally on 12 April in Potsdam:
We reject the so-called „reconciliation agreement“ between the German and Namibian governments!
It was not negotiated with the affected communities and does not legally recognise the genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama.
Development aid funds are not reparations!
We demand that the Joint Declaration in its current form is not signed!
Germany should fully recognise the genocide in Namibia and commit to reparations!
New negotiations should be scheduled with the participation of those directly affected!
Prussia was the source of the violence – Brandenburg should be particularly committed to restorative justice work and renegotiations.
But instead of campaigning for reparations and climate justice, the extraction policy is being continued: Brandenburg-based company Enertrag wants to produce „green“ hydrogen for Germany’s energy transition on Nama land. In 1908, the land of the Nama was declared a restricted area by the German colonial power.
Diamonds were mined there with the help of forced labour. The profits never reached the Nama, who became landless as a result of the genocide and often live in great poverty to this day. The harbour in !Nami≠nus (Lüderitz) is to be expanded for the planned export of green hydrogen.
This expansion is to be directly adjacent to the former Shark Island concentration camp. Shark Island was home to the most feared concentration camp: over 80% of the prisoners died. To this day, there is neither an official memorial nor any signage commemorating the horror.
We invite you to join us in commemorating and demanding the genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama:
Full recognition of the genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama!
Direct negotiations with the Ovaherero and Nama!
Reparations instead of continuation of the anti-human and anti-climate extraction policy!
