Am 12. Mai jährt sich zum 36. Mal der Todestag von Ufuk Şahin, der am 12. Mai 1989 in Wittenau aus rassistischen Motiven angegriffen und ermordet wurde.
Nach seinem Tod fanden in Reinickendorf und im Rest von Berlin Gedenkkundgebungen und Demonstrationen gegen rassistische Gewalt statt.
Wir wollen diese Ereignisse zum Anlass nehmen, um mit Aktivisten aus der Zeit über rassistische Politik und Gewalt durch Neonazis in Berlin zur Wendezeit zu sprechen, aber auch über selbstorganisierten Widerstand; antifaschistische und antirassistische Demonstrationen, Kundgebungen, Bündnisse, Zeitschriften und weitere Protestformen.
Wie blicken die Aktivisten auf die Zeit um 1989 zurück und wie bewerten sie die Lage heute?
Die Veranstaltenden behalten sich vor, Personen, die extrem rechten Organisationen angehören oder durch menschenverachtende Äußerungen in Erscheinung getreten sind, den Zutritt zur Veranstaltung zu verwehren oder von dieser auszuschließen.

Panel: Racist violence and migrant resistance during the fall of the Berlin Wall in West Berlin

12 May marks the 36th anniversary of the death of Ufuk Şahin, who was attacked and murdered on 12 May 1989 in Wittenau for racist motives.
After his death, memorial rallies and demonstrations against racist violence took place in Reinickendorf and the rest of Berlin.
We want to take these events as an opportunity to talk to activists from the time about racist politics and violence by neo-Nazis in Berlin at the time of reunification, but also about self-organised resistance; anti-fascist and anti-racist demonstrations, rallies, alliances, magazines and other forms of protest.
How do the activists look back on the period around 1989 and how do they assess the situation today?
The organisers reserve the right to deny access to or exclude people from the event who belong to extreme right-wing organisations or who have made inhumane statements.
