Sarah Higazi – Rest in Power
Wir versammeln uns am dreizehnten Juni 2026 am Oranienplatz um Sarah Higazi zu gedenken.
Wir versammeln uns, um uns daran zu erinnern, dass sie gelebt, gekämpft und geglüht hat für die Revolution.
Sie war eine warme Seele.
Während einem Konzert trug sie eine Pride Flagge und dafür wurde sie gebrochen, gefoltert, eingesperrt und misshandelt.
Ihre politische Arbeit, ihre Liebe zu ihren Geschwistern und ihre Existenz als kunstliebende, freiheitsliebende, lesbische Frau wurde durch diese Repression gewalttätig unterbrochen.
Drei Monate wurde sie vom ägyptischen Staat festgehalten.
Mit dem was von ihr übrig war, floh sie nach Canada, organisierte sich dort politisch und versuchte Behandlung zu bekommen für ihre PTBS und ihre Depressionen – Folgen der Qualen die sie ein Leben lang erlebte.
Queere rassfizierte Körper sind nirgendwo sicher und bekommen selten die medizinische Versorgung und die Ressourcen die sie brauchen um das Leid das ihnen zugefügt wird zu heilen.
Wie auch, in einer Welt in der die Gewalt nicht stoppt?
Sarah Higazi starb am dreizehnten Juni 2020 am Suizid, drei Jahre nachdem sie voller Freude die Regenbogenflagge auf den Schultern ihres Kumpels hisste.
Ein Suizid der eine Konsequenz, der Gewalt und der Verhältnisse einer queerfeindlichen, rassistische, kapitalistischen Gesellschaft ist.
Ein Tod der nicht vergessen werden darf.
Kommt zahlreich zu unserer Kundgebung. Es wird Reden geben, aber auch künstlerische Beiträge geben, denn Sarah liebte Kunst.
Kommt zahlreich, denn gerade jetzt brauchen wir Raum um zu trauern, zu schwelgen, zu weinen und uns gegenseitig Halt zu geben.
Bringt eure Texte und eure Worte, es wird ein Open Mike geben.

Sarah Higazi – Rest in Power
On June 13th, 2026 we want to come together at Oranienplatz to commemorate Sarah Higazi.
We want to gather, to remember, that she lived, fought and burned for the revolution.
She had a warm soul.
During a concert, she was wearing a pride flag, for which she was broken, abused, tortured and imprisoned.
This repression violently interrupted her political work, her love for her siblings and her existence as an artistic, visionary, lesbian woman.
She was detained by the Egyptian State for 3 months.
With everything Sarah had left, she flew to Canada, where she did political organization and tried to recieve treatment for her PTSD and depression – results of the distress, she experienced her whole life.
Queer, racialized bodies are never safe and rarely get the medical treatment and the resources, that they need, to recover from the harm being inflicted on them.
How are they supposed to, in a world that doesn’t stop this kind of violence?
Sarah Higazi committed suicide in June 13th, 2020, three years after she joyfully waved the pride flag on the shoulders of her friend.
Her suicide was a consequence of the violence and the conditions of a queerphobic, racist, capitalist society.
Please come to our commemoration, bring your friends and your people.
There will be speeches and artistic performances, because art has always had a place in Sarah’s heart.
Especially in times like this, we need space to grieve, to wallow, to cry and to hold each other.
Bring your own texts and words, there will be an Open Mike.
