Der Kampf gegen den Faschismus begann in Spanien!
Die Verteidigung der II. Spanischen Republik von 1936 bis 1939 gegen den gewaltsamen Putsch war der erste organisierte Versuch von Regierung und Zivilgesellschaft in einem Land, gemeinsam den drohenden Faschismus in Europa aufzuhalten.
Tausende von Menschen aus vielen Teilen der Welt eilten dem republikanischen Spanien zu Hilfe und schlossen sich dem antifaschistischen Kampf in den Internationalen Brigaden an.
Darunter auch ca. 3.000 Menschen aus Deutschland.
Einige waren bereits bei Ausbruch des Putsches vor Ort, weil in diesen Tagen die Arbeiterolympiade stattfinden sollte.
Viele waren auf der Flucht vor den in ihrer Heimat seit 1933 wütenden Faschisten und sahen eine Möglichkeit, in Spanien weiterzukämpfen.
Andere machten sich von Deutschland auf den Weg, weil es ihnen in dieser historischen Situation angezeigt erschien.
Alle setzten in jenen Tagen ihr Leben ein, viele kehrten nicht zurück.
Zum 90. Jahrestag der Ereignisse in Spanien 1936 möchten wir am 19.06. um 19 Uhr zusammen mit dem Verein der Kämpfer und Freunde der Spanischen Republik 1936 – 1939 an die ersten Deutschen erinnern, die beim Aufbau des bewaffneten Kampfes in Spanien dabei waren.

Internationalist Commemoration Series, Part I: 🚩 Lecture and discussion
The fight against fascism began in Spain!
The defence of the Second Spanish Republic from 1936 to 1939 against the violent coup was the first organised attempt by a government and civil society in a single country to jointly halt the threat of fascism in Europe.
Thousands of people from many parts of the world rushed to the aid of Republican Spain and joined the anti-fascist struggle in the International Brigades.
Among them were around 3,000 people from Germany.
Some were already there when the coup broke out, as the Workers’ Olympics were due to take place at that time.
Many were fleeing the fascists who had been rampaging in their homeland since 1933 and saw an opportunity to continue the fight in Spain.
Others set out from Germany because it seemed the right thing to do in that historic situation.
All of them risked their lives in those days; many did not return.
To mark the 90th anniversary of the events in Spain in 1936, we would like to commemorate, on 19 June at 7 pm, together with the Association of Fighters and Friends of the Spanish Republic 1936–1939, the first Germans who were involved in organising the armed struggle in Spain.
