Was bedeutet der Internationale Tag der Frau für die Palästinenser? Welche Rolle hat die Frau in der palästinensischen Gesellschaft unter der Besatzung in der Vergangenheit und heute gespielt?
Der Film spielt in der Zeit der ersten Intifada um 1987, dem Aufstand der palästinensischen Bevölkerung in Gaza und im Westjordanland gegen die israelische Besatzung.
Eine junge Frau beschließt, das Unmögliche zu tun: Freiheitskämpferin, Ehefrau und Mutter zu sein. Das hat schmerzhafte Folgen für sie, und nicht nur für sie selbst.
Naila ist die Verkörperung einer Generation, die sich als Teil der Freiheitsbewegung verstand und entsprechend reagierte, die führte, organisierte und mitbestimmte.
Naila offenbart uns eines der eindrucksvollsten Kapitel der Frauenbewegung im besetzten Palästina und beschreibt ihren Kampf an verschiedenen Fronten, politisch und sozial.
Die Lehren aus der ersten Intifada gehen weit über diesen Zeitraum hinaus. Die Misserfolge und Frustrationen der Intifada haben den Verlauf der modernen palästinensischen Geschichte bis zum heutigen Tag beeinflusst.
Die Verfestigung der patriarchalischen Strukturen in der Gesellschaft und die katastrophale politische Entwicklung sind nur zwei Beispiele für dieses Scheitern.
Nichtsdestotrotz gibt es einen ungebrochenen Willen, weiter für die palästinensische Freiheit zu kämpfen und eine unnachgiebige Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen die Besatzung mit einer unendlichen Opferbereitschaft.

What does the international woman’s day mean for the Palestinians? Which role has the woman played in the Palestinian society under occupation in the past and today?
The film takes place in the time of the first intifada around 1987, the uprising of the Palestinian population in Gaza and the West Bank against the Israeli occupation.
A young woman decides to do the impossible, to be a freedom fighter, a wife and a mother. This has painful consequences for her and not just for her alone.
Naila is the embodiment of a generation that saw itself as part of the freedom movement and reacted accordingly, leading, organizing and co-deciding.
Naila reveals for us one of the most impressive chapters of the women’s movement in Palestine under occupation and describes their struggle on various fronts, politically and socially.
The lessons of the first Intifada go far beyond this period. The failures and frustrations of the Intifada’s goals have influenced the course of modern Palestinian history to this day.
The consolidation of patriarchal structures in society and the catastrophic political development are just two examples of this failure.
Nonetheless, there is an unbroken will to continue fighting for Palestinian freedom and an unyielding resilience against the occupation with an infinite willingness to make sacrifices.
