Das neoliberale Wohlstands- und Friedensversprechen bröckelt:
Wirtschaftliche Interessen werden vermehrt militärisch abgesichert, es werden Bedrohungsszenarien konstruiert, Europa soll „kriegstüchtig“ werden und die Nato-Länder sollen 5% (!) ihres BIP für Verteidigung ausgeben.
Der militärisch-industrielle Komplex streicht derweil Profite für Drohnen und Überwachungstechnik ein.
Gleichzeitig wird die ganze Gesellschaft „auf Krieg getrimmt“, soziale und ökologische Anliegen werden soldatischen Werten untergeordnet und Krieg wird als unausweichlich postuliert.
Diese Entwicklung hat einen Namen: Militarismus.
Die Zeit um 1525 war auch gewaltvoll; damals gehörte das Kriegshandwerk zum Alltag vieler Familien. Im Blick zurück wollen wir differenzieren zwischen dem Krieg der Herrschenden, der den Menschen nur schadet, und der legitimen Selbstverteidigung der Gesellschaft.
Aber es ist kompliziert: Die beiden Stränge sind ineinander verwoben, wie wir anhand des Schwäbischen Bundes, der aufständischen Bundesordnung von Memmingen und des Landknechtswesens mit Beispielen aus der Zeit zeigen möchten.
Wir laden alle interessierten Friedensaktivist*innen, Rüstungsgegner*innen, Kriegsdienstverweigerer*innen sowie alle Menschen, die für Frieden und gegen die Militarisierung einstehen, dazu ein, sich mit den folgenden Fragen zu beschäftigen und die Antworten in dem Online-Treffen zu teilen:
1. Was ist Eure Initiative? Welches Problem wollt ihr lösen? Warum habt ihr euch zusammengetan?
2. Was sind die besonderen Herausforderungen in eurer Arbeit?
3. Was brauchen wir für eine starke anti-militaristische Bewegung in Deutschland?
Auch wir werden dabei sein und Rheinmetall Entwaffnen vorstellen.
Das Online-Treffen wird über Zoom abgehalten.

🌾 Online event: Revolts of 1525 – Militarism: Continuities to the present day
500 years of resistance. For life – for the country! — 500jahre.org
The neoliberal promise of prosperity and peace is crumbling:
Economic interests are increasingly being secured by military means, threat scenarios are being constructed, Europe is to become ‘war-ready’ and NATO countries are to spend 5% (!) of their GDP on defence.
Meanwhile, the military-industrial complex is raking in profits from drones and surveillance technology.
At the same time, society as a whole is being ‘geared up for war’, social and ecological concerns are being subordinated to military values, and war is being presented as inevitable.
This development has a name: militarism.
The period around 1525 was also violent; at that time, warfare was part of everyday life for many families. Looking back, we want to differentiate between the war waged by the rulers, which only harms the people, and the legitimate self-defence of society.
But it is complicated: the two strands are interwoven, as we would like to show with examples from the time, using the Swabian League, the rebellious Federal Order of Memmingen and the Landsknecht system.
We invite all interested peace activists, opponents of armament, conscientious objectors and all people who stand up for peace and against militarisation to consider the following questions and share their answers in the online meeting:
1. What is your initiative? What problem do you want to solve? Why did you join forces?
2. What are the particular challenges in your work?
3. What do we need for a strong anti-militarist movement in Germany?
We will also be there to present Rheinmetall Entwaffnen.
