📣 Einladung zum Open-Source-Meet-Up: „We Want Them Back“
In deutschen Museen und Institutionen lagern bis heute über 17.000 menschliche Gebeine aus kolonialen Kontexten.
Sie wurden gewaltsam entwendet und jahrzehntelang in staatlichen Sammlungen für rassistische Forschungen missbraucht.
Die App „We Want Them Back“ wurde entwickelt, um betroffenen Communities und Angehörigen einen besseren Zugang zu Informationen über Herkunft und Verbleib ihrer Vorfahren zu ermöglichen – und damit die Rückgabeprozesse zu unterstützen.
Der Prototyp ist nun als Open-Source-Projekt online.
Wir laden Entwicklerinnen, Designerinnen und alle Interessierten ein, sich zu beteiligen und gemeinsam an der Weiterentwicklung dieses wichtigen digitalen Werkzeugs mitzuwirken.

📣 Invitation to the Open Source Meet-Up: ‘We Want Them Back’
To this day, German museums and institutions hold over 17,000 human remains from colonial contexts.
They were forcibly stolen and misused for decades in state collections for racist research.
The ‘We Want Them Back’ app was developed to give affected communities and relatives better access to information about the origin and whereabouts of their ancestors – and thus to support the restitution process.
The prototype is now online as an open-source project.
We invite developers, designers and anyone interested to get involved and work together to further develop this important digital tool.
